Land of the Hornbills
Sarawak is the largest of the 13 states that make up
Malaysia. It is located on Borneo(the third largest
island in the world) and covers an area about 124,000
sq. km. Flanked by Sabah,Sarawak is saparated from Peninsula
Malaysia by the South China Sea.
The land is a premier tourist destination owing to its
bountiful wealth of natural wonders. This oil-rich state
is also a living museum of 23 ethnic tribe who still observe
ancient rites and celebrations. They live in peaceful and
harmonious co-existence with one another and with the rest

Enchanting Places

Mulu Caves-
The extensive and spectacular limestone cave
system boasts the world's largest cave passage (Deer Cave),
the world's largest natural rock chamber which can
accommodate 40 boeing 747 aircrafts (Sarawak Chamber) and
the longest cave systems in South-East Asia (Clearwater
Cave).
- The Pinnacles-
Be prepared for a challenging trek through
virgin jungle to get to these amazing towering shards of
rock on Gunung Api,sculptured and grooved by rain over a
5-million year period.
- Trekking-
Naturalist will relish every moment spent trekking
through Mulu's vast green paradise, blessed with many
species of flowers, plants, mammals and exotic birds.
- Niah Caves-
This cave system is of great historic importance.
It is here where archaeologists discovered the skeletal
remains of a huaman being dates back some 40,000 years.
Other remarkable discoveries include fragments of pottery,
stone tool, ornament and an estimated 1,000-year-old
set of wall-painting.
- Skrang River Safari & Lemanak River Safari-
Spend a night or two in a longhouse and experience the simplistic lifestyle of
the folks who live there. In the evening, you will be treated
to a graceful presentation of traditional dances, music and 'Tuak',
locally brewed rice wine.
- Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre-
A natural santuary for the endangered Orang Utan species.
- Bako National Park-
You will be mesmerised by the picturesque
coastline of steep cliffs, sea stacks and idyllic bays. Or you can
choose to trek through its lush virgin jungle and easily catch sight
of troops of Macaques or the unusual Proboscis monkeys, silver-leaf
monkeys, giant monitor lizards, plantain squirrels, wild boars
and mousedeer.
Gawai Dayak(Dayak Festival)-May
This truly spectacular celebration by Sarawak's indigenous groups
is held to mark the end of the padi harvest season. Among the highlights
of the festivities are numerous cultural shows and food fests.
